A bus crash in Pakistan has claimed the lives of 28 people just days before the Eid holiday.

Officials said a bus carrying people home for the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday in Pakistan collided with a truck on Monday, killing at least 28 people.
The accident occurred about 60 miles (100 kilometers) from Multan, Punjab province.
Shezad ul-Islam, a government official, said 40 people were injured in the accident, with the death toll likely to rise as some people were in critical condition.
Eid al-Adha is one of the most important Muslim holidays, during which families slaughter animals and distribute the meat to the poor.
Due to poor roads, poorly maintained vehicles, and reckless driving, Pakistan has a terrible traffic safety record, with thousands of accidents every year.
