Gunmen invaded the federal government college in Birnin Yauri on Thursday, June 17 and abducted at least 80 students and five teachers most of them been girls, they also killed one of the policemen who were guarding the boarding school.
This mass abduction follows a series of abduction that has hit Nigeria especially the northern part of the country in recent months, in the last three months there have been three similar attacks, last month more than 130 children were kidnapped in Niger state and they are still in captivity in fact since December over 800 children have abducted and most of them are yet to be released
A resident of the area who went to the school shortly after the event said
“When we got there we saw students crying, teachers crying, everyone is sympathizing with people,”
“Everyone was confused. Then my brother called me (to say) that his two children have not been seen and (we) don’t know if they are among the kidnapped.”
The kebbi state police spokesperson Nafiu Abubakar confirmed that the gunmen killed a policeman and also shot a student who is already receiving treatment but the police claimed to be unaware of the number of the student that were abducted and that a survey will conducted soon to determine the exact number of students abducted, the attack happened in a town called Birnin Yauri, the security forces has reportedly started the search for the missing children in nearby forests.
Nigeria has been hit series of killings, attacks, abduction and tribal wars in recent months, last week Friday some unknown gunmen attacked in Zamfara state killing at least 56 people, the following day, unknown gunmen attacked in jos, plateau state killing and injuring scores of people.
