Kwara State government suspends two top officers for alleged N170m

According to a Ministry of Health statement released on Wednesday, the Kwara State Government has suspended two senior officials from the Saving One Million Lives Programme for Result (SOML-PforR) to allow for an investigation into allegations of financial irregularities and inconsistencies in the handling of funds.
Dr Ibrahim Omar, the SOML-PforR State Programme Manager, and Alabi Rahman, the Programme Accountant are the suspended officer
The suspension and questioning of the employees were linked to the suspected manipulation of the N170 million SOML-PforR budget, according to a statement signed by the Ministry of Health’s Press Secretary, Falade Gbenga.

A preliminary investigation into the claims uncovered “some inconsistencies,” according to the ministry, which added that efforts to persuade authorities to provide explanations and verifications were “deliberately obstructed.”
It went on to say that the officials were being removed from the program to “enhance uninterrupted investigation,” and that they should work with the intra-ministerial investigating committee set up to look into the “financial transactions of the SOML-PforR between December 2019 and May 2021.”
