At a hotel in Kano city, the Kano State Police Command arrested a fake Assistant Commissioner of Police.
This was revealed in a statement delivered to newsmen on Thursday by DSP Abdullahi Haruna, the spokesman for the Kano State Police Command.
The suspect, Mohammed Aliyu of Mariri Hotoro Quarters in Kano, was detained after posing as an ACP at a hotel in Kano city and requesting a room for his guests who were traveling from Kaduna, according to Haruna.
“On July 2, 2021, at around 1800 hours, credible information acquired revealed that one Mohammed Aliyu, ‘m’, 45 years old, of Hotoro Mariri Quarters Kano, displayed himself as an Assistant Commissioner of Police at a hotel in Kano metropolis.
“As a Superior Police Officer of the Rank of an ACP, he sought a room to accommodate some of his guests traveling from Kaduna and other parts of the country, as well as a discount.
“He also presented the Hotel Manager with a complimentary card carrying his name as an Assistant Commissioner of Police and the Squadron Commander of 52 PMF Challawa, Kano.
“He further revealed that the Nassarawa Divisional Police Officer (DPO) is his younger brother in the Nigeria Police Force, and that he once served under his command.
“When the hotel manager noticed a suspicious approach, he promptly alerted the police, and the culprit was apprehended,” Haruna added.
Fake documents featuring the suspect’s picture and identity, Ibrahim Muhammad Tijjani as a medical practitioner, were discovered in his hands during the inquiry, according to a police spokeswoman.
Haruna stated that the case has been referred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation and prosecution.
