Protest in Kwara as gunmen kill pregnant woman, abduct husband

On Ojoku Road, Offa, in the Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, gunmen murdered a pregnant lady, Hawawu, and abducted her husband, Lukman Ibrahim, on Saturday.

According to sources, Lukman, a young entrepreneur who sold telephone accessories in Offa’s Owode Market, was attacked by the assailants about 10 p.m., a short distance from a police station.
The pair was allegedly on their way home when the hoodlums approached them.

We learned through PUNCH that the event sparked a protest by several locals on Sunday, when they invaded the palace of the Olofa of Offa, Oba Muftau Gbadamosi (Esuwoye11), demanding the kidnappers release the businessman.
SP Ajayi Okasanmi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, acknowledged the kidnapping but declined to provide any details.
He said, “The command is trying hard to have the victim rescued.”

“Around 10pm yesterday (Saturday), Lukman, a middle-aged phone dealer selling London-used phones at the Owode Market area, opposite Owode Police Station, Offa, was abducted by unknown gunmen along Ojoku Road, Offa, where he resided; he and his wife were on their way to their residence when they were accosted in their car by unknown gunmen,” a witness said.

“As Lukman was being pulled by the thugs, his wife yelled for assistance. As a result, the assailants shot her to death. Her corpse was abandoned at the scene, but Lukman was carried away and his whereabouts are unknown to this day.”

According to another report, Lukman’s wife was killed after he recognized the perpetrators.
The entrepreneur’s automobile was reportedly transported to the Offa Police Station on Ojoku Road, while Hawawu’s body was transferred to the General Hospital’s mortuary.
